Each year in the United States, approximately 71,500 women are diagnosed with gynecologic cancer and approximately 26,500 women die from it.  Sadly in 2008, my mother, Sara Herz was one of these women.  At the time of her ovarian cancer diagnosis, she was at an already at an advanced, incurable stage.  I can’t help but think that if we had been aware of the symptoms, and she had been screened for the disease earlier, she would still be with us today.

I created DesiGYNs on Awareness in 2013 to honor my beloved mother; to help raise awareness about gynecologic cancers; to educate the community about its signs and symptoms; and, most importantly save lives. In the past  four year’s the event has raised more than $150,000 for the C. Anthony and Jean Whittingham Cancer Center and funded genetic screening and counseling services to 64 women in our community who were uninsured or underinsured.

This year we want to impact the lives of even more woman. Your support of DesiGYNs on Awareness will make a difference in the lives of women facing gynecologic cancer in our community-perhaps the life of a special women in your life.
